Make a colorful necklace for Mardi Gras.
Paper Beads
Need: Comics, glue, straws or pencils
Cut triangle strips from colored paper such as newspaper comics, colored paper, or gift wrap.
Cut out triangles that are about 4 inchs across the top and long. Place a drop of glue on the pointy end of the triangle. Start at the wide end and roll the triangle around a straw or pencil.
When done press down the gluey pointy end. Slide the bead off the straw. Optional to make beads last longer: Brush the bead with a mixture of 2 parts glue and 1 part water let dry by hanging with a string.
Sand Beads
Need: Sand, glue, nail
Mix about 1 cup sand and with 1/4 cup white glue. Pinch off some dough and roll to make a bead. Use a nail to poke a hole in the center of each bead. If the dough is too soft to make a hole, add more sand.
Make lots of beads then lay them on a tray to dry. When dry color with markers then string to make a necklace.
Basic mask to print and decorate.

Salt Dough Beads
3 cups flour
2 cups salt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup warm water
Mix flour and salt. Add vegetable oil. Slowly pour water into the dough mixture. Pinch off a small pice of dough and form into a round or oblong shape. Use a nail or small straw to pierce a hole through the middle of the beads.
Lay beads on a greased or non-stick pan and bake in a 100 degree celsisu (about 200 Fahrenheit). The thicker the beads the longer they will need to bake. A bead that is 1/2 inch thick might take about 2 hours.
When done paint. An easy way to paint the beads is to place the beads and paint in a plactic baggie and shaking them. Lay on baking paper, wax paper to dry. Instead of painting the beads you can add food coloring to the water when you make the salt dough mixture.
